A little about me. My name is Robert Albro and I am retired. Approximately 20 years ago I was in a craft store and saw a book on reversed glass painting. I was very intrigued by this and as the book had some patterns in it I thought I would try it out. Well I did and several more books later I had done quite a few paintings. Then I tried laying the glass on some photographs that I had and started tracing what I saw on the glass using India Ink and pen. Then I painted on the color using oil paints. I was quite taken back by the results. This was a great discovery for me because I could not draw a lick. The only thing I ever drew successfully until then were flies! I bought some books on Pen & Ink drawing and learned some drawing techniques. After some years of doing the glass paintings I took the same principles and techniques and applied it to doing drawings on pine plaques that I made myself using pen & ink and colored pencils. At the same time I started to do a little wood burning. I bought a Nib’s Burner with the replaceable tips but my main emphasis was still on the pen & ink, colored pencils on the pine plaques. After this I did not do anything for a while. Then I started to get an itch to try some Pyrography. I went on to the internet and did a Google search on Pyrography and was very surprised at to the amount of information there was available. With my previous Nib’s Burner that had replaceable tips I found I would lose heat and with out knowing why, I got discouraged. With the great amount of information on the web I discovered why I was losing heat and so I bought a Colwood “Galaxy” wood burner with some fixed tip pens. No more losing the heat with these pens. I am very happy with my Colwood purchase. This in no way is a put down of the Nib's Burner, my mistake was not purchasing the fixed tips pens to begin with. The reason I went purchased the Colwood Burner is I had already given my Nib's Burner to a friend. I am finding that using the pen & ink techniques seem to be carrying over into my wood burning. The reverse glass and the pine planks are not available as they were done in years past but the Pyrography are available. If you are interested please feel free to email me.
